The 3-3-3 Rule: Your Rescue Pet’s First 48 Hours

Vet review planned before launch

What your new pet goes through in the first days, and why to expect very little at first.

01

Day 1 to 3: The Decompression Phase

Your new pet may feel scared, shut down or on edge. Give them one quiet room with a bed, water and food. Skip visitors, grooming and busy shops for now.

02

Week 1 to 3: Learning the Daily Rhythm

Keep meals, toilet breaks and bedtime at the same times. A steady routine helps them relax and learn the rules.

03

Month 1 to 3: True Personality Emerges

As they relax, you will see their real personality, and some testing of rules. Reward what you like. Never punish.

When to call a vet straight away

Call a vet straight away if your pet will not drink for a day, keeps vomiting or has watery diarrhoea, has pale gums, or suddenly will not get up.
